Over 1,500 7th grade students attended one of two half-day sessions for the first annual Career Exploration Day held at Hagerstown Community College (HCC). Each student was able to choose two career paths from more than a dozen vocations to learn about the job’s educational requirements, advancement opportunities, pay, and working conditions, as presented by more than 50 members of the business community. The event was organized by GHC, HCC, Wash Co Public Schools, Wash Co Chamber of Commerce, OnTrack, and the WCPS Education Foundation. An additional eight corporate sponsors and over 30 volunteers took part in making the day a success, and Michael DiGiacomo, Executive Director for the Governor’s Workforce Development Board came up to observe the event and had many great things to say about the collaboration in our community.
